A Classic Diner Experience in Edgewater

My friend and I recently enjoyed an early breakfast at Little Corner Restaurant (LCR) in Edgewater, Chicago. Stepping inside feels like stepping back in time, with a cozy, nostalgic ambiance that hints at the diner’s rich history. While I couldn’t pinpoint an exact establishment date, records show the restaurant changed ownership in July 2016, previously operating as Corner Diner. (I plan to dig deeper at the Edgewater Historical Society and will update if I uncover more details.)

Exceptional Food with a Personal Touch

The menu shines with classic American diner fare, offering versatile options like omelets and skillets that use similar ingredients for different styles. As a skillet enthusiast, I was thrilled to find this rare gem—LCR’s skillets are a standout, and I’m already looking forward to my next visit to support this local spot.

Our visit had an unusual start: we arrived right at opening (7:00 AM), only to find the cook managing the entire operation solo due to a late-arriving waitress. Despite the challenge, the cook welcomed us warmly, prepared our meals with care, and even checked in regularly to refill our coffee and water. His multitasking was impressive, handling everything except billing and payments, which the waitress efficiently took care of upon her arrival. The generous portions were delicious and surprisingly affordable, making the experience even more satisfying.

Why You Should Visit

Little Corner Restaurant captures the essence of a classic American diner, complete with booths and a sociable counter that sparks conversation among strangers and staff. For me, it evoked fond memories of a similar husband-and-wife-run diner my grandpa used to take me to. If you’re craving hearty comfort food in a welcoming, retro setting, LCR is a must-visit.
